This week marked the beginning of a research project to develop, implement, and study reintegration methods for survivors of trafficking. Dr. Velazco and her team seek to develop a successful reintegration method that will be able to be implemented internationally. Below is an excerpt from her most recent update:

Background
The first part of this research aims to come up with a tool that will measure the success of the reintegration of trafficked survivors. The tool will be based on indicators that will be derived from the perceptions of reintegrated children-survivors, family, and community.
The second part of the research aims to determine and ensure the reliability and validity of the tool.
In the third part of the research, the indicators of successful reintegration will be used to implement a program of reintegration for other selected subjects. At the end of the program, the tool will be used to measure the success of the reintegration program.
The tool can later on be used and validated in other settings in other countries, not only to determine success of reintegration of trafficked survivors, but also to serve as a guide to ensure their successful reintegration.
Part 1- Construction of the tool to measure success of reintegration
1. Translation of the English questions that gather subjects’ perceptions from 3 different angles into the Tausug, Cebuano, and Chavacano dialects
2. Back-translation of the Tausug, Cebuano, and Chavacano questions into English
3. Sorting out of discrepancies in order to be faithful to the original English questions
4. Dr. Velazco trains researchers in asking the questions and recording the responses
5. Field Coordinator trains existing researchers in asking the questions and recording the responses
6. Gathering of data in designated areas
7. Translation of the Tausug, Cebuano, and Chavacano data into English
8. Encoding the data
9. Dr. Velazco travels to train workers in content-analysis
10. Trained workers do content analysis
11. Dr. Velazco constructs the tool from content-analyzed data
12. Presentation of the tool to other experts for expert judgment validation
13. Finalization of the tool
Part 2- Pilot-testing of the tool
14. Dr. Velazco trains researchers in the use of the tool
15. Field Coordinator does Part 2 training for workers
16. Researchers use the tool in interviewing another group of selected survivors, family, and community
17. Encoding of data
18. Computerization of data to determine reliability and validity estimates of each item in the tool
19. Discarding or improving of items that did not demonstrate reliability or validity based on the statistical results
20. Finalization of the tool
21. Write-up on the tool including its levels of reliability and validity
22. Copyrighting of the tool for Love146
Part 3- Implementing a program of reintegration; using the tool to determine success of the program
23. Based on the indicators contained in the tool, drawing up a program of reintegration for another group of survivors
24. Selection and training of workers in implementing the program
25. Program implementation and monitoring for 6 months
26. Evaluation of the program using the tool
